Over the last few decades, Sint Maarten has grown into one of the most desirable destinations in all of the Caribbean, with flights available from most major cities, especially those along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. The best cruise lines have also made it the most popular port of call, while the megayacht community has chosen it as its winter home.
A Brief Island History – The island of Sint Maarten / Saint Martin was first discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493. Since 1648, the island has been peacefully shared between two nations with the North being French Saint Martin and the South being Dutch Sint Maarten.
In the 1960’s, its international airport serving both sides of the island helped propel the unique island into one of the Caribbean’s major tourist and seasonal retreat destination.
Since the 1990’s its numerous large protected bays and unique lagoon have established it as the undisputed premier yachting and cruise line destination in the Caribbean.
In 2010, the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles transformed Dutch Sint Maarten into an autonomous constituent country having its own parliament and legislative powers, while remaining within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the European Union.
Today – Today Sint Maarten has become the number 1 cruise destination in the world hosting over 2 million passengers per year. Sint Maarten also enjoys one of the best airlifts of any island of its size in the Caribbean, even when compared to islands multiple times larger. Only Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic can match its air service. Every major US airline flies regularly to Sint Maarten, as do all 4 Canadian airlines, several European lines and a few Latin American ones. In addition to service linking regional islands, there are currently non-stop flights operating regularly to and from more than 40 cities in the U.S., Canadian and European.
Real Estate – Sint Maarten on the Dutch side of the island, has only one last remaining oceanfront bay area which has not been fully developed. Indigo Bay is that last master planned community!
One of Indigo Bay’s strongest attributes is its close proximity to the major commercial centers of the island, being located halfway between the two activity centers, Philipsburg and Simpson Bay, and less than 4 miles from the Princess Juliana International Airport. Finally, it is also only 4 miles from the French capital, Marigot.
On a hilly island such as Sint Maarten where getting around is not a simple straight line, such a central, yet oceanfront location is a unique and most desirable location.
Located on the Southeast ocean coast of this small island, Indigo Bay (previously known as Cay Bay) was the last undeveloped bay in Sint Maarten. It is now being carefully master-planned and transformed into a 150-acre exclusive private community ideally situated only 10 minutes from either Philipsburg, Marigot, Simpson Bay or the airport. With 1,200 feet of coastline, its horseshoe-shaped enclave offers breathtaking ocean views from the entire site, while allowing the trade winds to gently flow over its surrounding hillsides.
Indigo Bay is not just about location, it’s also about the environment. In fact, 40 of its acres are to be preserved as conservation areas for open green spaces, lakes, wetlands, parks and beach area.
Indigo Bay is also about conserving precious stormwater and controlling runoff, about using renewable energy with solar lighting and assuring proper wastewater treatment systems throughout the community that can help make the island even greener and more sustainable. Finally, it’s also about preserving the quality of the neighborhood by controlling appropriate land use, compatible construction design, building heights and setbacks.
Indigo Bay is a guarded community with only one access point which is gated and under 24/7 closed-circuit TV surveillance. Its developers strive to offer a superb quality lifestyle in a low-density tropical resort-feeling eco-friendly environment.
Already, the first beach club restaurant is now open, and a new 5-star luxury hotel is in its final design stage of planning. As a luxury resort, Vie L'Ven will offer a number of new restaurants, a spa and exciting beach facilities. Together, they will offer residents excellent amenities without ever having to leave the community.
As development advances, Indigo Bay has progressively become the most sought after location in Sint Maarten.
In short, Indigo Bay is an environmentally responsible, resort lifestyle focused, residential oceanfront community.
Set on almost 7 acres of the Southeast-facing slope of Sint Maarten's Cay Bay (also known as Indigo Bay), Indigo Green overlooks the deep blue Caribbean waters that lie between Saint Barts and Saba. There, homes and condos will cascade down its rolling slopes, all strategically oriented to enjoy the best ocean views while catching the coolest breezes.
With its beautiful ocean views of Saba, Statia, St Kitts and Nevis and lush tropical landscaping, Indigo Green is envisioned to be a masterful community within Indigo Bay focused on residents that are looking for more than just a vacation property. Indigo Green will offer clean contemporary designed high-quality upscale homes for those who value their comfort, security, convenience and the environment.
As one of the very few gated secured communities on Sint Maarten, Indigo Green will offer its resident true ‘lock-it-and-leave-it’ convenience and lifestyle. Offering both a central pool area and optional private splash pools, it will allow its residents to peacefully relax in an exclusive private environment.
What else sets Indigo Green apart from other communities is that it will offer a multitude of amenities rarely found in Sint Maarten such as the following:
